I struggled for a while getting Windows style SMB shares working. Turns out you need to enable the user in Ubuntu, which can be done using "sudo smbpasswd -L -e username." Then the magic happened and using shares was as easy as it was supposed to be. I was a bit of a Mandrake user, started using the Fedora Core distro's for a while, stopped using any Linux with the exception of Debian under CoLinux for some of those things you can do in Linux but not Windows, then tried SUSE and
OpenSUSE, and finally, I'm using
Ubuntu. I have a feeling I'll be staying with Ubuntu for a while, unless I run into some unexpected issues.
